Large floods are possible. Traffic conditions may be difficult across the entire network and the railway traffic may be disrupted. Power outage may happen. Dykes may be damaged or submerged. I keep away from rivers and bridges, I reach a high point or I take shelter upstairs. I do not drive on a flooded road, even if it is only partially so. I avoid traveling and I keep myself informed of the weather conditions. I check the rising waters. I don't go into basements. I keep my goods out of the water and I locate my emergency kit.

Maritime submersions may cause severe and rapid flooding along the coastline, in harbors, along river mouths and rivers. Waves may damage coastal infrastructures and cause flooding through spray. Waves and maritime submersions, when they occur simultaneously, are particularly destructive. In case of submersion, road and rail traffic routes, houses and economic areas, may be flooded or damaged within a few hours, or even less, even several kilometers from the coastline. Waves may carry objects and materials (especially pebbles) which may become projectiles likely to harm people or to damage goods. Incorrectly secured objects may be washed away. Ships, even anchored on docks in harbors, may be lifted and washed up on land. Stream flow can also be slowed down or stopped, resulting in overflow. Strong gusts of wind, heavy rain and dam failure may increase damage. Injuries and material damage caused by waves and flooding depend on natural factors but also on human activities (land use). It may be reduced thanks to protection measures (dikes, piers, dunes) and prevention (restriction of planning in exposed zones, information, preparation…). I don't go to sea. I keep away from coasts and estuaries. I keep myself informed and locate my emergency kit. I monitor the rising waters and protect property that may be flooded. I reach the highest point possible or take refuge upstairs, as a last resort on the roof.
