Lake Effect Snow Warning issued December 1 at 2:20PM EST until December 2 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Buffalo NY * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 8 to 16 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Heavy lake snows will drop southward through this evening. The heavy lake effect snow will end by Monday in Jefferson and Lewis counties. * WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening through tonight. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions. Delay all travel. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution. Take a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra clothing. Also take water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive if you become stranded.
