Flood Warning issued September 28 at 8:57AM EDT until September 28 at 11:00AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties and independent city, Carroll, City of Galax and Wythe. * WHEN...Until 1100 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 857 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 6 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Brannon Branch, Brushy Fork, Buddle Branch, Brush Creek, Burks Fork, Brown Lick Branch, Ararat River and Big Reed Island Creek. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Wytheville, Galax, Hillsville, Rural Retreat, Patterson, Max Meadows and Fancy Gap. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
