special weather statement in effect Wintry weather is expected this weekend. Locations: central Newfoundland from Gander to Grand Falls-Windsor, Bay of Exploits, and Bonavista North. Total snowfall: 5 to 15 cm, highest in the west. Time span: early Saturday morning to the afternoon. Remarks: Precipitation is expected to begin as snow before transitioning through a mixture of ice pellets and freezing rain, which could persist a few hours before changing to rain Saturday afternoon. Anyone planning travel on Saturday should be prepared for adverse weather conditions. Various weather warnings have been issued for much of the island.
