blizzard warning in effect Blizzard conditions with poor visibility in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring. Locations: the Avalon Peninsula. Time span: Sunday night until midday Monday. Expected snowfall: 25 to 40 cm (highest over the eastern Avalon). Maximum wind gusts: northerly up to 110 km/h (strongest Monday morning). Similar storms in the past have caused: - school closures and cancellations of scheduled activities - disruptions to public services - scattered utility outages - disruptions and delays to road, air, and maritime transportation. Remarks: Snow, at times heavy, will combine with very strong winds to create blizzard conditions with near zero visibility in blowing snow. Snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour can be expected overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Conditions will gradually improve during the day on Monday. ### Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.
