special weather statement in effect A messy mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain is expected. Locations: Labrador. Total snowfall accumulations: 2 to 10 cm, highest amounts in the west on Wednesday and the north Wednesday night. Total freezing rain amounts: 2 to 10 mm, highest amounts inland Wednesday night for most. Total rainfall amounts: 2 to 10 mm, highest amounts along the coast later Wednesday night into Thursday for most. Similar events in the past have led to: - hazardous driving conditions - scattered utility outages - school closures and cancellations of scheduled activities Remarks: An intense storm will track northward across Quebec Wednesday night and Thursday. Precipitation with this system will begin as snow, before transitioning through freezing rain to rain with temperatures potentially rising into the double digits for many areas on Thursday. The biggest impact from this system will be the freezing rain Wednesday night which could persist for several hours in some areas, especially inland where freezing rain warnings could be issued. Fortunately, temperatures will rise significantly on Thursday so any ice buildup will melt quickly. Behind the storm, temperatures will fall again rapidly Thursday night, especially over western Labrador resulting in a possible flash freeze. Travel could become difficult. If you must travel, be prepared for delays and allow extra time to reach your destination. Motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. special weather statement in effect A weather system will bring potentially difficult wintrey conditions over the next few days. Snow on Wednesday will change to freezing rain overnight Wednesday night, making for locally slippery roads. Ice accretion will likely come with very strong winds. These conditions may weaken ice-covered tree limbs and so further increase the risk of limbs breaking and causing power outages. On Thursday morning, temperatures will briefly rise, causing freezing rain to turn to rain. However, a rapid drop in temperatures late in the day could lead to a flash freeze. Ice may form once again on roads. Thursday evening, a return to snow combined with strong winds may cause significantly reduced visibilities in blowing snow into Friday. Consider changing any non-essential travel plans for this period. Prepare for possible power outages. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
