Special Weather Statement issued December 21 at 4:36PM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK Heavy snow is expected to develop across the Northern Interior Monday morning and continue through Thursday. Around the Fairbanks metro area expecting 1 to 3 inches of snowfall. However, north and west of Fairbanks towards Tanana, Bettles and the Dalton Highway, expect periods of heavy snow and snowfall totals over the 4 day stretch around 6 to 10 inches in some spots. There could be areas of blowing snow and low visibility along the Dalton Highway on Monday due to gusty winds.

Visibility will be reduced to 1/2 mile or less at times. * WHERE...Dalton Highway Summits. * WHEN...Until 9 AM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
