For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 24 below zero possible. * WHERE...Portions of east central Colorado, northwest and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 11 AM MST /noon CST/ this morning. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from this afternoon through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values may fall to extremely dangerous levels. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. To prevent water pipes from freezing; insulate or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. Use caution while traveling outside. Make sure all skin is covered, including wearing a hat and gloves.
