Cold Weather Advisory issued January 20 at 9:35AM MST until January 20 at 5:00PM MST by NWS Goodland KS * WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 21 below. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills of 20 below to 30 below zero. * WHERE...In Colorado, Yuma County. In Nebraska, Dundy County. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 5 PM MST this afternoon. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from 5 PM MST this afternoon through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values may fall to extremely dangerous levels. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind chills of 25 below zero or less are no longer expected. However, due to the continued threat of wind chills around or less than 15 below zero throughout the rest of the day have converted the Extreme Cold Warning to a Cold Air Advisory. To prevent water pipes from freezing; insulate or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. Use caution while traveling outside. Make sure all skin is covered, including wearing a hat and gloves.
