Extreme Cold Warning issued February 12 at 3:18PM PST until February 13 at 12:00PM PST by NWS Portland OR * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills ("feels like") as low as zero degrees fahrenheit expected. * WHERE...Western and Central Columbia River Gorge, the Corbett area and the Hood River Valley. * WHEN...For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 7 PM this evening to noon PST Thursday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, from noon Thursday to noon PST Friday. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Hypothermia, cooling of the internal body temperature, occurs quickly and is often unnoticed by the victim until it is too late. Exposed skin can suffer from frostbite very quickly at these temperatures. If you must venture outdoors, make sure to dress properly for extreme cold. Multiple layers of clothing including outdoor jackets and pants are the best way to stay warm during extreme cold, helping to prevent frostbite and/or hypothermia. These items include: hat, gloves, winter jacket, face mask, thicker socks, and cold weather footwear. Hand and foot warmers are also recommended.
