For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow possible; total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches possible above 4000 feet and 2 to 4 inches below 4000 feet. * WHERE...East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 5 PM this afternoon to 11 PM PDT Thursday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Significant snowfall with periods of heavy snowfall rates will combine with low visibility to create very difficult driving conditions, especially along US-20 over Santiam Pass. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds may gust as high as 45 mph over exposed terrain. Persons should consider delaying travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
