Heat Advisory issued June 30 at 1:41PM EDT until June 30 at 7:00PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC * WHAT...Heat index values up to 109. * WHERE...Portions of east central Georgia and central South Carolina. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued June 30 at 5:57PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC At 557 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Lugoff to Forest Acres to 6 miles northeast of Batesburg-Leesville. Movement was southeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Columbia, Sumter, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce, Forest Acres, Oak Grove, Shaw Air Base, McEntire Air Base, Red Bank, Dentsville, St. Andrews, South Congaree, Pine Ridge, Gaston, Arcadia Lakes, Eastover, Lugoff, Oakland, and Sesquicentennial State Park. This includes the following highways... Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 3. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 40 and 63, and between mile markers 75 and 94. Interstate 26 between mile markers 108 and 127. Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 16. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
