Southeastern Piscataquis County in north central Maine... Southern Penobscot County in east central Maine... * Until 1000 AM EST. * At 842 AM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from near Brownville Junction to 7 miles west of Madison, moving east at 50 mph. HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to blowing snow and visibility rapidly falling to less than one-quarter mile. Wind gusts up to 35 mph. SOURCE...Radar and webcams. IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between mile markers 157 and 226. State Highway 11 between Newport and Brownville Junction. State Highway 9 between Dixmont and Clifton. Locations impacted include... Bangor, Old Town, Bucksport, Dover-Foxcroft, Dexter, Newport, Guilford, Howland, Brownville Junction, Orono, Brewer, Hampden, Hermon, Corinth, Milo, Veazie, Kenduskeag, Springfield, Lakeville, and Indian Island. Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. Consider avoiding or delaying travel until the snow squall passes your location. If you must travel, use extra caution and allow extra time. Rapid changes in visibility and slick road conditions may lead to accidents.
